Lilac Fairy Variation

Happy Tuesday All!  Today I wanted to share a video of one of my favorite variations.  This is Marianela Nuñez of the Royal Ballet performing the Lilac Fairy variation from Sleeping Beauty.  It's slightly different then the version normally performed and I have to say I like this version so much better!  (Plenty of turns!)

I always admired the Lilac Fairy variation, but beyond variations class, I never danced it.  I was more the Canary Fairy or Pointer Fairy type, but I always wanted to have the extensions and the softness the Lilac Fairy required. C'est La Vie!  Anyway, here's a bit of ballet inspiration for you!

I love it! And I love that you are posting these videos! How old do you think these ballerinas are? Is there a cut off age when they no longer get lead roles (like modelling or something)?

Thanks Ladies! Laura there is definitely a certain amount of ageism in ballet...Most principles retire by age 35. It's an interesting topic though and you've actually inspired me to write a post about it for next week! Stay tuned!
