a year ago today...
A year ago today the boy and I stood before our family and friends and declared our love and devotion to each other! It is our one year anniversary and I feel so happy, so loved and so blessed! {photo: Erin Hearts Court}

Mad about Mad Men
I'm just mad about Mad Men...and Mad Men's mad about me! The boy and I recently got hooked on Season One, and quickly followed it up with a marathon of Season Two and now are happily caught up with the rest of the country! Maybe it's simply the clothes (Betty Draper's closet is my happy place I am sure of it) or the production design
(some of the wallpaper is to die for) or the amazing performances, but the whole thing is truly one of the best things I have ever seen on television. It actually makes me almost sort of miss the advertising business in a way. I mean, if only the blokes that I met and worked with looked like Don Draper.
The problem is they all think they do; they also think they are a witty and clever as those Mad Men, when frankly it just isn't so. Of course, the show is much more than a colorful romp into the advertising world of the 1960's and the issues of parenthood, marriage, public vs. hidden personas, professional inequality and relationships are all extremely current in a way. But on the other hand, I love that this period of history is the setting for such a well executed and enthralling show. I am obsessed with pretty much every character--each has such layers of complexity--it's really exciting to watch! It really has got under my skin!

that's what a hamburger's all about!
Hi there, I'm Gidget (but my real name is Heather.) I'm a SoCal girl whose Moondoggie turned out to be from the other side of the pond! We met at UCLA, he doing a year abroad, while I was looking to soak up some culture by living in the foreign student housing. We suffered two and a half years of long distance dating before we wed and he relocated to Beverly Hills to live the high life with me! (Just kidding, we live a lovely little life, but I wouldn't say it's high...I'm kinda scared of heights!)
We were both working in the television business (is there any other in L.A?) until I had enough and longed to go back to doing what I had been doing most of my life: Dancing! I danced professionally in several ballet companies in my younger wilder days, and in August of 2009 I went back into dancing and teaching dance full time. Since then, I have new found passion in the art of ballet as well as sharing my love of dance with young people. While I officially "retired" from the ballet world as of this summer, I still find ways to be involved with the dance world and share my love of dance. This very blog is one of them. I hope that my friends, my students, my family and fans will enjoy the many dance-themed features that I regularly post.
But if there is one thing that I can assuredly say about myself, it would be that I am complex and have many many different interests. Lilac and Lace reflects a lot of those interests. I am also a indie-biz chick, making hand-crafted tutus for youngins' and accessories for the young at heart. I hope to open my new Etsy Shop, Red Ribbon Fox, early this year. So take a look around and see whatcha like! I'm a crafter, a writer, a movie geek, a girly-girl, a wife, a sister, a daughter and a friend. This is my lifestyle blog filled with ballet, the boy (aka: my husband--- he prefers to maintain a bit of mystique) and beautiful things!
Enjoy!

fridge art
I have been printing pictures today that I plan on displaying on the kitchen fridge and it got me thinking about how the fridge is a pretty common place for photographic and artistic displays. And I started to wonder about fridge art. What you put on your fridge seems suddenly significant to me. IMaybe I need to give it a rest, but I went searching for some fridge art online even so and to be honest, I wasn't that impressed. However I was reminded of the oh-so-charming magnetic alphabet letters that adorned our fridge when I was growing up. I used to love writing things out with those, and I have come to the decision that I need to find some for my own fridge. Anyone know where to buy them?
{lovely lists}
There is something so nice about a well thought out checklist. I find it to be one of the most calming things when I am embarking on a new task. When I have a thorough checklist to reference it makes whatever I am doing infinitely easier and less daunting.With the end of summer drawing near, I find myself with the autumnal urge to store up on supplies and get ready for winter (this even when it's still in the 90's outside, go figure!) Regardless of reason or season, a list is always a good thing to have when stocking or planning for any event. And typically Martha Stewart manages to supply the very checklists I am referring to. Everything from stocking your pantry to planning a bridal shower, Martha provides checklists for almost every occasion and organizational task. Take a gander, and with a couple of mouse clicks; download, print, they can all be yours! Just click here and find all the checklists you could ever need!
Enjoy!

what a glorious feeling!
This is somethin
g monumental...Monumental Pictures in fact! This Saturday (the 22nd) the best movie ever, my all time favorite film, the first thing I ever saw that made me sigh and say: "I am gonna be a dancer when I grow up" will be playing at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.It is considered by many to be the best Hollywood Musical ever produced. It is considered by me to be the film that I love more than any other film I have ever or will ever see. It is the movie I watch when I am sick, when I am discouraged, when I am happy, when I am confident. It is~
Singing in the Rain
Starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. This Saturday, August 22nd at the Cemetery. I hope to be there by 5:30pm. If you have any respect for cinema or dance or laughter you should be there. It will be splendiferous! See you there! Monday, August 17, 2009
Finally: the AFTER!
So remember this:
Well now with my recent unemployment I actually had time to give you the
After~

What do y'all think? I am quite happy with the result, especially since I managed to make these adjustments all myself! There really is something thrilling about DIY....that is, when it is done well!
P.S. The pillows are from Pottery Barn; can't claim I made those!

Final Days
So I know I have been absent from blogging for a while, but over the last week amazing things have happened! Firstly, I had my last day at work, after 2 and a half years. It was very bittersweet, and very nice to see how happy all my coworkers were for me in my new endeavors. Here are a few gems from the day:
Me going through my general range of emotions at my desk~
I got a cake in celebration of the last day...as you can see it was very well received!
I managed to get several jobs teaching dance and joined the California Contemporary Ballet Company! I am quite excited at the prospect of dancing professionally again, even if my old out of shape body may not think so...Check it out, very cool choreography by Artistic Director Erin Holt. I am very honored to be a part of the company!

just like romeo and juliet
These pictures are a few weeks old, but I wanted to share because it was a very special evening for me and the boy. He took me to see American Ballet Theater perform Romeo and Juliet at the Dorothy Chandlier Pavilion and we had fabulous rockstar seats! Check it out!

{coin laundry}
I know this has been all over the interweb but I cannot seem to get enough of this little ditty by Lisa Mitchell. I think this is one of the most adorable videos I have seen in a very long time. Found via the amazing Rockstar Diaries. Enjoy!
"Bad Scooter Searching for his Groove"

Feels like the whole world's walking pretty and you can't find the room to move? Yeah. Me too.
So, the boy and I have made a very important decision. I am leaving my current, steady, decently paid production job and am going back to doing the thing I always loved to do: Dancing and teaching dance. I'm pretty damn nervous cause I haven't really been dancing for years, but the boy has confidence in me, and well, I have confidence in confidence alone...the bottom line is I am really excited by this leap into the unknown and hopefully get back to doing the things I like and feeling happier!
Wish me Luck!

Is it too soon?
Too soon to be planning my Halloween Costume that is? I love Halloween! The boy could probably take it or leave it. But this year I want us to come up with fun and cool costumes. I am starting simple, but I kinda want to either be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz or Mary Poppins...
I am thinking maybe I could make this dress work for Dorothy~
{but in blue, obviously}
What do you think?

Drumroll please.......
The boy and I got a new car (well an old car--very old--but new to us). I named it Murray, cause it's definitely an old man, and have you ever met a Murray under the age of 65? But best of all, this thing has red interior! Nuff said!
