The Best Sandwich in the World!

Once upon a time I worked for a production company that would pay for my lunch--ev-ry-day.  The catch was you don't get to leave for lunch.  But believe me, the pro of a free lunch from usually really tasty restaurants totally outweighed the con of not being able to leave the office.  During that time, I was introduced to Bay Cities Deli.  It's a little Italian market and deli in Santa Monica that is always packed with people, and for good reason.  Their sandwiches are hands-down the best I have ever had in my life.  Certainly the best in this corner of California.  They have also been there since 1925, so they must be doing something right!

If you are living in LA, or just in town for the weekend, venture to the West side and get yourself a Bay Cities sandwich, because it's like L'OrĂ©al says, "you're worth it!"

As much as going to Bay Cities is a delight, it can also be a bit of a pain (you always have to wait.)  So the boy broke down the secret to their sandwich magic in order for us to make some at home (this is in regards to  my favorite sandwich, which is like admittedly the simplest sandwich in the world, but trust me, it's also delicious.)

The Secret~

#1.  They use Boars Head Cracked Peppered Turkey
#2.  The bread they use is amazing, fresh baked Italian rolls
So, buy the turkey, buy a roll from their market (or any decent bakery) and put that together.  Add red onion, crisp lettuce, olive oil and a splash of balsamic vinegrette and you have my perfect, simple, and scrumptious turkey sandwich inspired by Bay Cities Deli.  Bon Appetit!
This was the beginning of my assembly of the perfect sandwich for lunch.  Yum!

Charismatic Lunch

Today I'd like to have lunch with Emma Pillsbury from Glee.  We would have a lovely lunch of simple salads and toast from Jack & Jill's on Beverly Drive.  Emma would order her dressing on the side, then produce her own dressing from her purple purse to sprinkle on it.  Wed gab about her collection of vintage pins and colorful cardigans.  She'd give me tips on ways to volumize my hair and when I ask about how she really feels about Will Schuester she would just giggle and change the subject.

LA Burger Quest : Part Dos

Today, I snuck away and had a special lunch at Carl's Jr.

While many people think the Big Mac and the Burger King burgers are the best of the fast food titans, I have to disagree.  I LOVE the Famous Star at Carl's Jr.  It's  D-E-Licious!

Now whether it is better than the burgers served at In & Out, is a question and a quest for another day.  : )

{For those of you who aren't on the West Coast, I believe the equivalent of Carl's Jr. is Hardee's....I am not sure if the menu is completely the same though.}

Charismatic Lunch

Here's a new series for you: each week I will pick a character from a TV show or film that I would like to have lunch with somewhere in Los Angeles.  Notice I wrote character not actor.  I am talking about dining with the fictional personalities of the screen.  I think that sounds like more fun than eating with actors.

First luncheon would be with Mr. Pete Campbell from Mad Men.  We would have a lovely lunch consisting of corn-beef sandwiches at Musso & Franks in Hollywood.  We'd wash it down with very dry Martinis  (which I don't like the taste of actually but would hide my distaste for Pete's sake.)  He'd charm me with talk about all his new advertising clients and ask me general questions about myself, furrowing his brow so that he appears to be really really interested in me.  I would try to split the check and end up offending him.  He'd finally admit that he hates Martinis and as he'd leave, he'd trip on the door frame, but act like it didn't happen.  It would be awesome!
