The Britannia Awards

Hi Lovelies!  I am completely exhausted today.  It's been a crazy week, with the election, crazy happenings at work and all kinds of busy-ness.  But the highlight of the week (so far) was last night's Britannia Awards ceremony.  Each year, BAFTA LA recognizes a small selection of people for their contribution to film.  It's always a star-studded event and last night was no different, with the likes of Daniel Day Lewis, Stephen Spielberg, Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in attendance (just to name a few!)  I feel so lucky that the boy and I were able to attend and of course, with it being a fancy event I had to get dolled up!

I kept my look pretty simple this year, opting for a simple satin dress in bright green, black tights and my mary jane heels.  I was particularly please with how my hair came out.  I wanted something not quite up, but not quite down.

I wish I had taken more pictures, but it was easy to get caught up in the event and forget to capture the moments!

What We Did on New Year's Eve

It was a nice and quiet affair...The boy and I spent New Year's Eve at my brother's place, eating food with our friends and playing Apples to Apples.  It was really fun.  And even despite the low-key festivities I still did my hair in a festive up-do and donned a glitter star crown.  Cause if not on New Years when is a better time to wear a star crown?

Hope you had a fun and safe evening too!

Giveaway Winner!

Well, I must say that I considered calling off this silly giveaway due to the fact that only 2 people entered!  Totally sad.

But I suppose it just makes the odds better for my two contestants...And it allows me to pick them with a simple "Heads or Tails" flip of a coin!  Very No Country for Old Men, huh?  So heads for commentor #1, tails for commenter #2.

So then, without further ado, the winner of this gorgeous velvet bow from my shop is.....

Jennifer from Crazy Shenanigans!  Way to go!    But I will also be sending a special consolation prize to my other candidate Kaycie from Redhead Memories.

Thanks for playing ladies!

Holiday Cheer Hair Accessories Giveaway

I've been in the mood to create some really fun and seasonal hair accessories.  It started as just something I wanted to do for myself (like making things that I can wear to upcoming holiday events, but then, I thought, what the hell?  I'm going to make some extras for my Red Ribbon Fox Shop!  A shop I've been ignoring for some time now.  And so now Red Ribbon Fox is finally updated!  But I have even more to add, cause I have made a lot of things, but I'm just not so good at the actual posting part, ya know?

ANNNDDD I also thought this would be the perfect time to giveaway one of my festive hair bows for some extra holiday cheer!  Win this lovely avocado green, velvet ribbon bow:

All you need to do is leave a comment below with your name, your favorite holiday song and a way to contact you should you win.  If you have your email linked to your profile that will work.  Additionally, you must follow this blog either by google friend connect or bloglovin'.   I am really close to having 200 followers and it would be so cool to reach that goal before the year is out!

For extra entries you can blog, tweet or facebook post a link to the giveaway, but be sure you leave a comment for each extra entry you do. I'll announce the winner on Wednesday of next week.

Good Luck!

Oh and for more fun, here is a little video I made in honor of this momentous occasion!

Rock Star Pigtails Hair Tutorial

I must admit, I saw a very cute lady sportin' this hair-do and I thought "that's cool, I want to look cool like that," and that's how I got the idea.

Get the look yourself by following these simple steps:

1. Part hair into 2 sides, leaving a small portion in front

2.  Pull the 2 sides up into 2 high ponytails not quite pulling the hair all the way through so you are left with 2 loops

3.  Pin the hair in the loops around the hair bands to create fun and messy little buns

4.  Pull back the hair you left in front, tease slightly and pin straight back.  Any remaining tail can be separated and pinned into the buns

There you have it!  I fun hair style taking the best of both Helena Bonham Carter and Baby Spice and making some Rockstar Pigtails!

Just a few things

Hello!  Just wanted to pop by to share a few things with y'all.  Firstly, I hope you're still enjoying the August break.  I can hardly believe we are already to August 18th!  Crazy!  Secondly, I have to share how sometimes, my good ole' headband curls technique doesn't always turn out so great.  Exhibit A:  I have totally crazy hair today!

Also, I just had to share that the boy and I saw The Help the other night and it was so so so good!  You simply must go and see it!  It made me desperate to read the book too.  So that's got to be added to the list!  I am such a pathetic reader.  It takes me FOREVER to get through even the simplest of books.  But I am trying to rectify that now.  Back in college I was able to read 5 novels a week, so I know I can do it, I'm just out of practice.  Right now I'm reading the first Huger Games book.  Yep, I caved after getting significant pressure from every woman I know; "What? You haven't read it? You're life isn't complete!"  Etc, etc.

Besides the incredible story, wonderful characters and amazing performances in The Help, the one other aspect I adored was the beautiful costumes.  They were stunning to look at; I loved them all.  There were some amazing "Betty-Draper-Type" dresses in there, but I also liked Skeeters smart fitted skirts and blouses.  Oh and there were some awesome cat-eyed glasses too.  I want some cat-eyed glasses!

Warrior Princess Hair!

I'm sure many of you have seen this tutorial on how to curl your hair without the use of pins or rollers.  It's been floating around the blogisphere for some time now and I first caught a glimpse of it on one of my favorite sites No Model Lady.

I love having curled, voluminous hair, but my hair is naturally thin, stick straight and I'm really lazy in the mornings.  This technique looked like it would be a fool-proof, easy way to get kick-ass curls in the morning, and boy is it ever!  I gave it a try and now I am hooked!  It's the best thing ever.  The curling "updo" is comfortable enough to sleep in and cute enough to wear out (I went to work with my hair like this the other day!)
And then all you do is take out the headband the next morning and presto!  You've got curls!

It's great when something so simple turns out to be something so great, don't ya think?
