Books are the Best!

As a literature major in college I cultivated a love of books, old, new and everything in between.  Since graduating I feel like I don't get to read quite as often as I'd like, but I still love books.  I like just having them around me.  I like decorating with books and smelling the scent of old books.  I like the sound a hardcover book makes when you crack it's spine.  I like the covers, the paper, the type, the ink.  There is just something sacred in books.  And naturally, reading a good story, meeting unusual characters and being whisked into the imagination of a skilled writer is always the best part of a good book!
Here's a quick peak at some of my photos from the Armagh Public Library in Ireland.  They had some really amazing old books and the room was filled, floor to ceiling with beautiful books.  It was like the scene in Beauty and the Beast, you know when the Beast gives Belle his library? Yep it was like that and I felt like Belle! ;)

The library was founded in 1771 and houses such valuable classics as Sir Walter Raleigh's 'History of the World' from 1614 and a copy of Benjamin Motte's first edition of 'Gulliver’s Travels' by Jonathan Swift  from 1726.
Still, one of the best parts of the library was the massive and gorgeous key hole for the front door.  Why don't they make locks like this anymore?

This is absolutely gorgeous. I love the smell of books and yes definitely the crack of an old spine. I don't think I can do the e-books. It just doesn't feel the same to me. Nowhere near as fulfilling.
