Childhood Friends

I've always been pretty friendly and I seemed to be able to make friends easily throughout my life- no matter my age, what I'm doing or where I am in the world.  But as much as I love the friends I've made in recent years, there is something special about the friends from my childhood...and I'm talking elementary school, childhood days.  I probably spent more time with that group of people than any other (besides my family) and I suppose that may be why I have so many fond memories of them.

But I also think that the friends you have when you're a child are particularly special.  It's such a unique and important time of life.  The people around you affect you in a way unlike any other people you'll meet later in life.  You share the process, the confusion and the joy of growing up together and that makes those relationships simply unforgettable.

It's a strange thing to say, but I am so grateful for some of the modern technology that helps us to retain just a bit of contact with the friends from our past.  I am mainly talking about Facebook here.  But in all truth, I am glad that so many of my friends from Valencia Valley Elementary School have connected with me through facebook and other social media.  It may not be ideal, but it's a tie to the relationships of my youth and really that is something to cherish.
